More Options for Google+ Badges

Thursday, January 26, 2012 at 1:53 PM

Webmaster Level: All

Update on February 2, 2012: The new Google+ badge is now out of preview and available to all users on all sites.

When we launched Google+ pages in November, we also released Google+ badges to promote your Google+ presence right on your site. Starting today in developer preview (and soon available to all your users), we're adding more options for integrating the Google+ badge into your website. You can configure a badge with a width that fits your site design and choose a version that works better on darker sites. You'll also see that Google+ badges now include the unified +1 and circle count that we added to Pages last month.

If you’re still considering whether to add a Google+ badge on your website, consider this: We recently looked at top sites using the badge and found that, on average, the badge accounted for an additional 38% of followers. When you add the badge visitors to your website can discover your Google+ page and connect in a variety of ways: they can follow your Google+ page, +1 your site, share your site with their circles, see which of their friends have +1’d your site, and click through to visit your Google+ page.

The Google+ Badge makes it easy for your fans to find and follow you on Google+. With these additional options, we hope it's even easier to create a badge that fits your website.

Hey there,

For some reason this does not work for my site.
I can't get it to be smaller than 300 px even though I set the width to be 200 / 270 px.

Is it only me ?

same here, width customization is broken.

Hi everyone, thanks for your quick feedback! A couple points:

1. If you're not already, it helps to join the Google+ Platform Prevew Group to see the new badges and future updates.

2. Check out the author's, Lucy Hadden's, Google+ post as there's a comment by Henry A. Otero who mentions that for Wordpress:
[ You need to install something like the "General Headers & Footers" plugin by David Gibbs. Add the first section of the badge code there and then the section that says "Place this where you want the badge to render" at a page or in a widget. ]

Hope that helps,
Maile

Hi Maile,

Thanks for the pointers.
Although it is said by Henry that the size modification does not work.

The badge itself works fine but the size is the problem.

Would be great if there is a solution as I would love to have my badge in my wordpress sites.

Well that's great, but when are you going to provide writeable access to the Google+ API, so we can connect our blogs to our Google+ Pages automatically? Facebook have been providing this functionality forever. Thanks, Graham

It is a great news that google+ place has come up with different badge sizes for website owners. Initially it was problem and we were harassed a lot by this limitation. Want to convey my gratitude to Google for providing us such facility that can help us make our page more appealing and attractive.

I was looking for the same and expecting that the badge should match to my site's design and look. Waiting to use javascript:void(0);it once it goes live.

Hey I can't find a place to say this but when I try to link my analytics to webmaster tools I get this error: {"error":"security","exception":{"errorCode":"security","shortMessage":"Security problem. Please try reloading the page.","longMessage":"We cannot verify your account credentials. Please verify your account information, then sign in again."}}

So, is it me or google?

One more thing to maintain. Getting overloaded by Google trying to keep up with all of their gadgets and bric a brac. It's like jumping through hoops, every week a new hoop.

When you're finished engineering what should have been done so up-front email me.

I'm trying with you all, but am getting quite tired of having to keep up with your constant updates and software errors on this platform.

Heck you folks still haven't updated my business location on places - or on G+ local!
