Webmaster level: AllVideos are one of the most common types of results on Google and we want to make sure that your videos get indexed. Today, we're also launching video support for schema.org. Schema.org is a joint effort between Google, Microsoft, Yahoo! and Yandex and is now the recommended way to describe videos on the web. The markup is very simple and can be easily added to most websites.
Adding schema.org video markup is just like adding any other schema.org data. Simply define an itemscope, an itemtype=”http://schema.org/VideoObject”, and make sure to set the name, description, and thumbnailUrl properties. You’ll also need either the embedURL — the location of the video player — or the contentURL — the location of the video file. A typical video player with markup might look like this:
<div itemscope itemtype="http://schema.org/VideoObject">
<h2>Video: <span itemprop="name">Title</span></h2>
<meta itemprop="duration" content="T1M33S" />
<meta itemprop="thumbnailUrl" content="thumbnail.jpg" />
<meta itemprop="embedURL"
content="http://www.example.com/videoplayer.swf?video=123" />
<object ...>
<embed type="application/x-shockwave-flash" ...>
</object>
<span itemprop="description">Video description</span>
</div>Using schema.org markup will not affect any Video Sitemaps or mRSS feeds you're already using. In fact, we still recommend that you also use a Video Sitemap because it alerts us of any new or updated videos faster and provides advanced functionality such as country and platform restrictions.
Since this means that there are now a number of ways to tell Google about your videos, choosing the right format can seem difficult. In order to make the video indexing process as easy as possible, we’ve put together a series of videos and articles about video indexing in our new Webmasters EDU microsite.
For more information, you can go through the Webmasters EDU video articles, read the full schema.org VideoObject specification, or ask questions in the Webmaster Help Forum. We look forward to seeing more of your video content in Google Search.

Good to know! XML sitemap, Image sitemap and now Video sitemap update.. It may help us to increase impression over this channel!
How do we use this in conjunction with YouTube videos?
How can i use schema on whole site?
Will it be beneficial? Can it increase the PR and good for SEO ?
Some noob questions , if anyone likes to answer them.
Agree with this schema mark up 'coz video is a part of supportive media in composing great content. Content is king!
The elephant in the room with Google's guidance on video sitemaps - and now Schema - is YouTube.
How about some guidance on what to do if you're using the world's largest video platform, and its embedded players on your site? ;-)
If you look at http://schema.org/VideoObject they specify the use of:
itemprop="thumbnail
Your example on this page specifies:
itemprop="thumbnailURL"
Which is correct for specifying the URL of the thumbnail image?
Can this also be used to include flash files or animations?
Javin
Another noob question. Do you need (or can you) have a video sitemap for videos that are embedded into your website but hosted on another (YouTube)?
Just like Steatite, I would like to know how this would be implemented with YouTube videos.
I had a queation some days ago:
http://www.google.com/support/forum/p/Webmasters/thread?tid=181fd064a3328300&hl=en
Is it possible for Google PlusOne to use the schema.org markup for embedded youtube videos?
It appears that the example code here and on the schema.org site are both missing the id="video".
Only maybe you just don't need it?
From my testing it doesn't work with the rich snippet tool unless id="video" is included.
Can someone confirm if it's required.
Thanks
ignore my first comment, I must of been using some wrong code.
The example code above should end with a closing DIV tag not an open tag.
You give me a nice inspiration. I had a successful try and now can share my new experice with the world ;-). Is a great deal!
thanks to the team
Should this be used only for pages where the center of attraction is the video or can this be used on site home pages that have an embedded video from youtube?
giRecently we returned from a four-day trek with a friend in the Annapurna Himalayan range. Boasting spectacular scenery, rugged terrain and extremely welcoming locals, I've never visited another place on earth like Annapurna.
Helping us get the most out of our trek was our friendly and knowledgeable guide Sanjib Adhikari, a specialist trekking guide and expedition organizer based in Thamel, the bustling heart of Kathmandu. He skillfully guided us across treacherous mountain passes, pointed out the rich variety of flora we passed and, in the evening after hiking, served our meals and played cards with us.
Knowing that there are quite a few other less capable and experienced guides than Sanjib, I'd certainly recommend him to other trekkers. His website is: www.nepalguideinfo.com

The top banner on the Official Google Webmaster Central Blog (http://googlewebmastercentral.blogspot.com/)there is only one image (http://photos1.blogger.com/x/blogger2/6495/3914/1600/z/104716/gse_multipart40542.png) instead of image with text and perhaps a < h1 >, that i might think requires a intermidiate or all level webmaster skills to do.
Why has not google employee`s done this the way it should?
How do we use this in conjunction with YouTube videos?
Hello Google.
Well, if Gioacchino Rossini, was born the 29:th of februari 1792, he would have celebrated his 55:th (or actually only 53:rd, since year 1800 and 1900 didn't have leapdays) birthday today.
Lars Karlgard, Sweden
good article. why use ?please
Thank you =)
How can i use schema on whole site?
Will it be beneficial? Can it increase the PR and good for SEO ?
Some noob questions , if anyone likes to answer them.
would this markup alert Google any faster than video sitemap??
I am wondering if you use the schema markup and ALT tags together will Google penalize you for duplicate content.
Thanks

I've been using schema.org tags to describe our videos and find it very straightforward and effective.
However, it seems that something changed recently, and videos marked up with schema.org now appear in search results without thumbnails.
Mark Robertson describes this as well in his post http://www.reelseo.com/embedded-youtube-indexed-google/, and I've seen similar behavior for videos not hosted on YouTube, at least since April 17th. These videos were showing up correctly before.
I hope this will be resolved soon...
As a web developer, I love that Google has started allowing us to give them more context around the items we are marking up.
With the recently released product markup from schema.org I wrote what the ideal SERP / listing would look like on a site, it is a good supplement to the video commentary here.

Cannot get this to work with YouTube videos, why do they do this for Flash and not YouTube when Google owns YouTube?
