Google Webmaster Central Blog - Official news on crawling and indexing sites for the Google index

Another step to reward high-quality sites

Tuesday, April 24, 2012 at 2:45 PM

Webmaster level: All

Google has said before that search engine optimization, or SEO, can be positive and constructive—and we're not the only ones. Effective search engine optimization can make a site more crawlable and make individual pages more accessible and easier to find. Search engine optimization includes things as simple as keyword research to ensure that the right words are on the page, not just industry jargon that normal people will never type.

“White hat” search engine optimizers often improve the usability of a site, help create great content, or make sites faster, which is good for both users and search engines. Good search engine optimization can also mean good marketing: thinking about creative ways to make a site more compelling, which can help with search engines as well as social media. The net result of making a great site is often greater awareness of that site on the web, which can translate into more people linking to or visiting a site.

The opposite of “white hat” SEO is something called “black hat webspam” (we say “webspam” to distinguish it from email spam). In the pursuit of higher rankings or traffic, a few sites use techniques that don’t benefit users, where the intent is to look for shortcuts or loopholes that would rank pages higher than they deserve to be ranked. We see all sorts of webspam techniques every day, from keyword stuffing to link schemes that attempt to propel sites higher in rankings.

The goal of many of our ranking changes is to help searchers find sites that provide a great user experience and fulfill their information needs. We also want the “good guys” making great sites for users, not just algorithms, to see their effort rewarded. To that end we’ve launched Panda changes that successfully returned higher-quality sites in search results. And earlier this year we launched a page layout algorithm that reduces rankings for sites that don’t make much content available “above the fold.”

In the next few days, we’re launching an important algorithm change targeted at webspam. The change will decrease rankings for sites that we believe are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines. We’ve always targeted webspam in our rankings, and this algorithm represents another improvement in our efforts to reduce webspam and promote high quality content. While we can't divulge specific signals because we don't want to give people a way to game our search results and worsen the experience for users, our advice for webmasters is to focus on creating high quality sites that create a good user experience and employ white hat SEO methods instead of engaging in aggressive webspam tactics.

Here’s an example of a webspam tactic like keyword stuffing taken from a site that will be affected by this change:

Of course, most sites affected by this change aren’t so blatant. Here’s an example of a site with unusual linking patterns that is also affected by this change. Notice that if you try to read the text aloud you’ll discover that the outgoing links are completely unrelated to the actual content, and in fact the page text has been “spun” beyond recognition:

Sites affected by this change might not be easily recognizable as spamming without deep analysis or expertise, but the common thread is that these sites are doing much more than white hat SEO; we believe they are engaging in webspam tactics to manipulate search engine rankings.

The change will go live for all languages at the same time. For context, the initial Panda change affected about 12% of queries to a significant degree; this algorithm affects about 3.1% of queries in English to a degree that a regular user might notice. The change affects roughly 3% of queries in languages such as German, Chinese, and Arabic, but the impact is higher in more heavily-spammed languages. For example, 5% of Polish queries change to a degree that a regular user might notice.

We want people doing white hat search engine optimization (or even no search engine optimization at all) to be free to focus on creating amazing, compelling web sites. As always, we’ll keep our ears open for feedback on ways to iterate and improve our ranking algorithms toward that goal.

how can a site get number 1 on google.com for "make money online" when there is nothing on the site.. no backlinks and further more... nothing listed in the Google index!!! site:makemoneyforbeginners.blogspot.ca/ returns 0 results...

JUST FANTASTIC!!! I am jumping for joy Matt. Now you have left a whole new can of worms open for Negative Seo. So all you have to do is hire a service to to get links from unrelated sites, point them to your competitor for a few months and watch them fall like flies. That's awesome.

In the meantime great sites get hammered and spammy sites sit on top.

In my niche, there are only real real competitors who offer real value, education and service. My competitor and rur content is original written by authoritative experts in the field. Yet this recent update allowed 3 clearly spam adsense filled sites to take over the first three spots while our sites dropped to 2 and 3 page and some keywords are gone altogether.

Fantastic JOB you guys are doing there in GOOGLE.What you guys call quality is pathetic.

I think there is a mistake on this google update.

Just search "get my iq" on google.com international.

You will get this result: When will I get my tax refund? - TurboTax® Software Support

LOL. This never happened before.
With this update, they fired websites with a lot of keywords inside (even if it is not spammy)..

I do not understand

DO this: search "social networking sites".. Facebook.com is NOT on the first page!! Last I checked facebook IS the #1 social networking site? I am WRONG?

Unique product site @ #1 for 13 years - gone. Results are now replaced by big media articles and wikipedia - totally useless if you are looking for the product which this keyword set is for.

5 yr old blog/magazine site @ #5-ish with 1,250 articles by expert authors, natural backlinks, comments, likes etc - gone. Replaced with thin affiliate sites and more unhelpful big media/wikipedia articles. #1 is now a PR 0, 3.5M alexa housewife blog.

It seems the algo now picks a Hearst media article or wikipedia to fill the first page (or random junk) because they are less likely to be "web spam." I guess web spam means any site that has provided great content and been rewarded with a page one ranking.

The list goes on but you get the idea.

Oh and my server logs show that email spam is up, comment spam is up, referrer spam is up.

Since Schmidt left Google (and remember the blast from the ex-goog employee saying that G is all about the money now) - the search results have gotten worse at each revision and this one takes the cake.

Thanks Google. I'm done with playing nice and being a respectable publisher. I'm giving up and going to ads / spam since it works. Even though I hate writing salespages and email spam there is an ROI and it is far less likely I will loose income on the whims of Google.

Oh and I've switched my search to Bing as recent Google searches are just dreadful.

TO be honest the Google search results have gone very very poor

they only care about money not people

heard one person committed suicide
today as there company was on the brink and the Google change was the last straw , so i think you might be able to say Google kill people too

whats that moto "Do No Evil"

what a joke

Seriously, you messed up everything, i've been using WhiteHat seo for my site, on-page seo, done nicely and correctly, no spamming, no keyword stuffing, no nothing. I was ranked on #2 page 1st position, with PR 2, and now my site is on #17 page, on my keyword.

I've been searching today "make money online" first position was a blogspot with NO CONTENT ON IT, not a single POST, that's true relevant high quality. I must admit it's unique.

On "viagra" keyword, .edu sites. GG (GOOD GAME)

Here is a picture of your work.
http://s17.postimage.org/4rmuku8jz/searchquality.jpg
Don't blame me, i found this picture on net.

In this way, SEO will dissapear or dissapered.

They are people who invested in their sites big money for copywriters and now sites with no relevant content rank better than with relevant content.

A post blog post (with a simple question using my keyword) who doesn't have to do with my niche rank better than me.

Sorry Matt, don't think i'm a bad person, but you or Google did a bad update!

Hi, Johnny, I agree with you senuke has nothing to do with "dog training" search. I have checked it now.

This is the ultimate proof that ranking of websites being keyword targetted, keyword marketed are harmed by this update.

The end users prefer seeing dog training related content or a website which only have "dog training" once in the text like senuke ? Clearly, the first solution.

This update is illogical.
3% more unrelated links in GOOGLE SERP !

You have killed my site http://www.youthchg.com. Now spam scraper sites rank high for my keywords and my site has disappeared entirely. You are hurting so many businesses including mine. I had been on top of search engines since 1996, now I am going to be at risk of being lost entirely. You can't find my site for any word that would have worked before, but you can find the scraper sites who stole my content at the top now. You need to fix your flawed formula quickly or innocent businesses will be gone just because of your fatally flawed new evaluation formula.

This is very perplexing to say the least. All our rankings are gone. Every client we get states how our site is the most professional and is giving them the exact experience or help Google says to give your users. We did exactly what Google said to do, give unique, quality content to our users who choose us because of this.

I certainly hope Google will roll back this update and be a bit smarter about what they are doing as they can ruin you overnight as they did to us.

I hope that we can start to see some better search results, but Google dilemma is hardly an anomaly, Bing is just as bad in producing useless results, simply because the Corporate Advertisers are weighted, since they obviously pay for that service, its expected, but when you perform a search for say, an exclusive part for a car or an engine and you get ten of these get this part on buy.com, and its a dealer only item, basically that is as useless as the proverbial screen door on a submarine,.

I suspect that this effort may provide some good metric data to Google, but it is not the answer, because the problem is deeply ingrained in the business concept that Google has chosen to proceed with, this is what Google is missing its a huge issue, one that allowed Bing a successful hold on the market, (this is the way it should be)

(1. Consumers, Publishers, Advertisers)

(this is the way it is now)

(1. Advertisers, sponsored, Publishers, Consumers)

Simply put Google has placed everything above the one group which without, no profit can be obtained in the long run, advertisers that get little or no consuming activity will not see the long term value of the service.

Until Google recognizes that its most important resource is the publisher avenue, which the Advertisers can leverage into paying consumers, then sadly this and every other attempt at manipulating the market will fail.

Lindenberg said...

Let's wait 48 hours more or maximum 3 days.

Maybe, Google is putting low quality websites at the top to confirm they are bad and then put again our websites at the top and even higher in SERP.

This is a possibility.

Dear Matt,

I was affected by this update, on some of my sites. This update was effective in some areas, but really negative in other areas. This update Lowered a few sites and left behind the biggest article spammers.

PLEASE READ

Matt please Google these keywords "Fishing Games" Check the back links of the Top 2 sites. They are big time Article Spammers, Spinners and Directory buyers and have not updated there sites in months. Other sites that have a few reciprocal link trades, a few relevant forum sig links (From Different Forums), A few directory submissions but also update there site twice a week with unique flash created or Sponsored games, great unique game descriptions, but in the end get shot down the ranks. What gives? Please Matt look into this the results are messed up in a lot of ways. The biggest spammers that don't even update are still at the top. Another thing not sure why dfg.ca.gov is even ranked 7th for "Fishing games". DFG has nothing to do with fishing games. Content over everything, please remember that Google. If a site has some reciprocal links trades and a few other inorganic links, but also has the most content, the best content, fresh unique written and created content, should they really be punished? The lazy people that never update, that no longer care about there sites and just pay for links and Spun articles should be punished. Punish those people first, they are truly the most Clever spammers.

With this update people can effect each others rank, just by submitted there site in all kinds of bad places? This update might become Search Engine Chaos as anyone can now commit malicious acts to lower someones keyword ranking? Am I right?

I don't understand how you can just BURN DOWN OUR HOUSES with these penalties. My business is based on an all-around great user-experience, happy customers, original content, and relevancy for search engines so we can get found and compete with our competitors. Why would a nice site that has 12% conversion rate (which is one of the highest in our industry), 17% bounce rate, and long-standing history in google crash and burn? It doesn't make sense!

One thing is clear, Google doesn't care about those of us who CARE about our businesses. Those of us who do care are the ones that work at it. We put a lot of hard work and time into it. Rather, you are rewarding those that do nothing.

First, penalties should go away because there is too much collateral damage. Secondly, there should simply be a weighted system. If you want to encourage relevant, genuine businesses, make your algorithms reward them. Weight the rankings with 40% good orginal content, 30% backlinks, 10% conversion rate and bounce rate, 10% site speed, errors, etc, and make it so if a backlink anchor gets to heavy, make that percentage the glass ceiling rather than a penalty. Enough with these crazy antics. Seriously, the volatility in being in an internet business has never been greater.

I would love to invited to the SUMMIT that Tim Carpenter suggested. Those of us who are in it have a lot to say. Why don't you hear our side of the story? We also can provide value. I honestly think this penalizing is getting way out of hand and is unethical. There is a much better way but you have to use your head and problem solve. The recent updates seem like more of a hap hazard way to try to fix something and is doing a LOT of damage.

Don't forget there are real people and business owners behind these businesses. We have a lot to lose, families to take care, and bills to pay just like you do. I think it's easy to forget that. We are REAL people.

I would hope that this is a terrible mistake and a rollback is in order today or tomorrow.

Well done Matt...you and your team managed yet again to royally screw the SERP's up even more. Come on man, how can you keep saying you are making improvements in the organic search results when terms like "make money online" show an empty blog at the number 1 spot. Seriously, its completely blank. Is that what you and your team call a good user experience or am I missing something here?

I have been to a few forums and its clear you have declared all out war against any SEO being done and you will continue to do as you please despite honest and legit sites being hammered by the hundreds of thousands.

Those are real legit sites that have families and bills to pay. Surely, you can't be that insensitive and just change up things and not realize the collateral damage. You just caused possibly tens of thousands of people to declare bankruptcy because of this one update.

I have a simple challenge for you that has already been posted elsewhere.

I would like you to personally create a new website outside your own specific knowledge or skill sets that is NOT related to SEO, internet marketing etc and produce a stellar website that will give you natural links.

The only condition, is you can't put your name on it and can't advertise to anyone that it is you doing it. I'm sure the internet community would like to see the types of site you talk about.

I'm sure this experiment shouldn't be too hard for a guy like you. But, you can't manipulate the search results because you know the algo's inside and out. Your only requirement is to write stellar content and wait for all those natural social love and links to magically appear. It has to be a real site too and you can't tell anyone other than a few people inside to avoid any conflict of interest. But, it has to be a fair and honest test.

I wonder if you would be really up to a challenge like that because you folks in Google do a lot of talking, but I don't seeing anyone stepping up and walking the talk. Then in about 6 to 12 months time, you can report back to the internet community how your results are doing. This way, people will understand exactly what Google is expecting and everyone in future can build those stellar sites you tell us over and over again, that you want to see in the SERP's.

I too have same problem at www.Fredericksburgagent.com. I went in this morning and cut down on my city keyword. "Fredericksburg ". I also removed all links that seemed suspicious or not closely related to real estate. I hate to say no to link exchange requests. I will only add similar sites in the future. I hope this is just a temporary event. I created my site with unique quality content for my real estate audience. Sites with less informaion are now at the top.

Zach said...

Move towards quality, are you kidding?

Have you checked your SERPS, while authority unique sites are getting tanked, here are just a few totally screwed up SERP results:

Keywords: cheap dog collars
Ranking site: www.dogdug.com

Keyword-stuffed title, keyword-stuffed body -- and look at the footer, all keyword stuffed.

make money online - first result has zero content - just a blank blogger blog

cheap purses - results 7 - 10, pure SPAM, two of which have nothing to do with the query

new shoes - look who's on Page 1 (www.interpretive.com/rd5/index.php?pg=ns) -- has nothing to do with the query

Keywords: dog training
Guess who's on page 3/4? SENukeX.com.

keyword - used rowing machines
Very few of the results actually relate to the phrase.

There are plenty more, while those of us that build quality sites with original content are sent to Page 200, this spam sits high up in searches.

There is no rhyme of reason to what Google does lately

To be honest, I dont expect an admission of unethical practise from Google at all. They messed with thousands of advertisers on adwords already and shut them out of the blue. They have no bearing in reality and what it's like to be a real webmaster building a legitimate, clean, ethical and "white hat" site online.

Even one simple mistake now is enough to get your site tanked!!

This to me is the last straw. ***Google is unreliable and you will NEVER build a stable business on this platform. They can chop you down at will.***

Its time to build a solid brand and deal with ethical businesses, and not rely on search engines for the traffic to our sites.

Thank you Google...By harming SEO, you encourage people to destroy their competitor.

But with the update I notice something strange that I think I should inform you.

Some popular content(ranked by views of the users) is available on my home pages so other to know which content is more viewed. In every content page there is social sharing plug in or buttons.

- The strange things is :o) :
- The popular pages have most of the shares and this content is not shown in google now. The pages that is most naturally shared by the users just for that pages I can not find page content when copied on google.

This is really the thing that should be considered please.

Content from Pages with most visits and shares by the users are not shown in results.

This is bit or more strange and contradicts with user experience.

Please check this.

A noble idea...poorly executed (once again). You killed me with the Panda update, and you've killed me once again this year with this latest effort.

I have 30-40 web sites. Yes, a handful are info-sites, which you might debate the value of (although past traffic and ranking would indicate to me that they were fairly legit overall), but most of my sites are high-value, highly-trafficked, truly unique and offering something that people want when they see it.

Your choice to tamp down on spam by rewarding larger sites penalizes legitimate content creators and aggregators like me.

I'd sure love to know what you'd say to my face: someone who signed up in 2003 for AdSense and has done things the right way for the right reasons for nearly 10 years (ok, I'll admit to some marginal-quality link-building efforts here and there...but I was left with no choice in order to compete with others who were doing the same and outranking me). But I continue to get penalized along with the spammers and MFA site-builders(and I am not one, and never have been).

I maintain that you fail by depending utterly on an algorithm. No algorithm can equate human judgment. If you had human beings involved (at least in some small measure), your search results would be better and we wouldn't have to resort to cheap link-building tactics in the first place! Seriously...DO YOU THINK WE LIKE SPENDING MONEY ON THOSE THINGS?? Yes, you may argue that incorporation of social triggers equates human input...but you know as well as I do that social triggers can be gamed as well.

C'mon, Google...get it together and quit hurting the little folks who are trying to do things the right way!

I think this update needs update again.

The most popular pages with original content to help users and most shared pages by the users (with social shares, buttons) are nowhere to find in google search when copy the text to google search.

What is more terrible for me considering user experience the text content is shown on newly created website with stolen(copied) content from sites most popular pages.

We are working our sites with much effort and always considering how user can grant more experience and information on page, more conceptual and user-friendly.

Think that this update have some bug when considering social shares from more social sites. Most visited pages and most shared on the site are nowhere to be found in google when copied now.

Please reconsider this part of the algorithm since there is no logical and user friendly sense cutting from results most viewed and most shared content pages.

This is just for pages that are shared most by the users (with social share buttons on the pages)

Other pages are ok.

This is strange please.. consider that I like a user always want to see that is most popular that other people or users are viewing and sharing..

Tibi.... have you looked at the search results, you will mostly find low content and quality. Not sure if you realise what wrong this update has done.

This is going to affect the economy even worst. This update is not only affecting many webmasters, but also their families and local businesses (no money = no food or shopping)
The social implications of each update go way beyond a website.

Well, u've finally done it Google...Today I have to close my business and let go all my employees. Years of creating great unique content...improving constantly to give the user a better experience and it has all been for nothing, all my sites are now lost in the depths of Google, none of which ever employed grey or black hat seo tactics and are now replaced with what? spammy sites. a w e s o m e. the few bucks I am still making will disappear in a few weeks once my last positioned site (no idea why it is still positioned) begins being attacked by negative seo. Goodbye world, thanks Google for your increasingly failing updates and your disturbing double standards in which u send mails with ads layout improvements showing that the best way to improve earnings is positioning ads up and then penalizing sites for that. Or requiring ads being separated 150 pixels from the content and then pasting a Google ad in the middle of a youtube video...go Bing

So google says the new update rewards those that get comments and backlinks from Social networking sites. Really ?!? So those people that are incredibly popular already go the top of google!!? Here is what I am saying.. take for example take an incredibly ALREADY popular person like "Kelly Clarkson" with MILLIONS of dollars already.. who already has like 100 million friends on facebook.. google will give her even more juice on google..excactly the person that needs it the LEAST!!! Does THIS make ANY sense!!?? Google how about helping a small business like me that struggles DAILY to keep people in a job or a small unknown blogger, that makes a few bucks every month from his website.. THATS who REALLY needs it! Get a clue google!

google is commiting suicide... if it doesnt revert back. and not only that, but itll be murdering an insane multitude of sites, businesses, jobs (including mine! - which is why i was and am freaking out), and people's livelihoods along with it... F*** YOU GOOGLE FOR BEING DUMB PIECES OF S***, AND FOR RUINING SEO AND LEGITIMATE WHITE HAT SITES AND BUSINESSES ON GOOGLE WITH THIS NEW ALGORITHM.... REVERT BACK OR DIE WITH THE REST OF US!!!!... because you will f***ing become obsolete, for the results that you ping back in your top rankings are mostly useless to the user searching with the given keywords now. but yea, F*** YOU for doing this and potentially ruining my life (if you dont revert back)...

here's what i was asking my boss about, after discovering this and going through the big discussion of what this meant for us and our business and my job:

reading thru the comments and actually seeing google's search results when used.... wont google HAVE TO revert back from this nightmare of an algorithm update?? because with the results that are popping up, and from the testimony from hundreds of people in the comments section of that link.... how will google have any legitimate search usage anymore whatsoever, if the results that pop up in the top rankings are hardly any content within the pages given (almost no seo, usually one-page/thin-affiliate sites), or webpages that come up that have exact keyword match for the url (ie - best penny stocks keyword matching to a site url that would be bestpennystocks.com, regardless if its even a working site or not).... i dont even see how google can let this stay as it is with this new algorithm.... it literally makes using google as a search engine almost COMPLETELY useless, and brings up almost no relevent or helpful links at all....

i dont see how they will be able to NOT revert back from this without suiciding its entire brand and reputation as a whole...

i mean, what do u think? do u think theyre actually gonna stay with this update? how would it be possible if all of the top ranking results are useless and meaningless for the keyword/s put in and to the user searching?

it just doesnt make any fucking sense to me....

In the past I have always thought Google provided by far the best results. I have a few hobbies that I search through quite often, and Google has always done a fairly good job of showing sites with quality unique content. Definitely better than Yahoo and Bing at least.

Unfortunately after this newest update I have having a hard time finding good sites. Most of the sites I am finding are copy pasted content with no value. For the first time in multiple years I decided to try Bing and Yahoo, to my surprise they provided excellent and relevant results, more similar to Google's old results.

It looks like I will be using Bing/Yahoo for a while, hopefully Google resolves this problem when I decide to check back in a week or so.

Google is giving us so little information to work with that it is very disconcerting.

Thousands of people are going out of business because of this, yet all we have is some stupid picture of some spun content which absolutely none of us are even doing on our sites!!!

I am never, ever, ever relying on a company like Google again for anything. This is a totally a deceptive practise from the simple fact you've given us virtually no information. "Build high quality sites" is worthless talk because it doesn't give us visual or concrete examples of what you're looking for. Not to mention you change your algorithm (and therefore what you want) once in a while!

Please open your eyes people. I cannot believe it has come down to this. Google: your karma is going to come back to you. Guaranteed. You will not get away with this by physical law. You are a young company that has a lot to learn and you will be punished for it. What you are doing is simply not acceptable.

You have lost the trust of legitimate webmasters who build high quality, content rich sites on the internet.

I am going to build a solid brand and build relationships with ethical businesses from now on.

Good luck everyone.

...and to gauge how many other businesses and websites that used white hat seo techniques that are being affected, not to mention the top ranking results that are appearing (the worst ever seen in history).... i just cant see them logically keeping this update, unless, like i mentioned on facebook when i posted the link, that they are in a sense, commiting suicide, if they dont revert back.

...it just seems so irresponsible, counter-productive, and just straightup idiotic to not have tested this and everything before initiating it. cause it absolutely doesnt work at all for what they were proposing it for...

also, they've pretty much enabled Negative SEO, from what im reading, with this new algorithm... i never knew about negative seo before, but after reading about it, they are basically enabling it to be in full force with this new update.... and if thats the case, then they just failed their initial objective tenfold, and just made it a hundred times worse than before to be able to use black hat techniques, cuz then, ppl will just hire seo ppl to do seo and linking to competitors' sites so they end up dropping in rank due to this new algorithm, and like one of the commentors said; itll be a new War within the SEO community.... all because of this one google change.

im just blown away that this is really happening... im just praying they realize what theyve done and rollback the algorithm change for the sake of those whose lives were affected and to keep google alive and relevant, for if it doesn't, it is going to wither and die extremely fast.

...and lastly, apparently, theyre sayin that a business owner who was having trouble with his business, was also affected by this new google algorithm change... basically it was the last straw and he committed suicide. this shit is real. this is the biggest fuckup google has ever created in it's entire history of existence....

he committed suicide cause his business was already in trouble, and then with the google change, his top-ranked site got deranked completely, and thus lost 100% of all site traffic, leaving him with zero business left. truly a sad day.

Nooooo, on my site, most viewed and shared pages with original content, most user friendly layout are not to be find when copied to google search now. Mostly for those pages,.. I can't beleave this ;o)) Google check for bugs please!.
How can rewards social shares when this update the pages with most views and social shares (by social buttons on page) are not include now.

More frustrating. My site design more proffesional and created for user experience. What in some cases is shown now? Site with adds all over and no much of 1 or 2 sentences content ;o)))
Also I found copied scam site shown with my original most wived pages content shown in results and original pages not shown.

I put to much effort just for creating content for users and creating user experience.

I think update is great but for some instances have BUG.

I work on all my sites in same professional manner. Some are up now other down with no logical explanation.

- Social Sharing (numbers) - bugs.

I think result now show lately not so authority results with no much effort on content and no white hot or any seo :) more frustrating not or at all user friendly structured sites

this is not logical for me

My site is completely applicable to my niche so why should it not rank high? it provides quality information to people. Sorry but this update makes no sense to me.

Fantastic Matt! One of my websites has just received a nice big kick in the preverbial, and I think I know why! Recently I have started receiving spammy links to my site, about 50,000 of them from only 120 .TK websites. They are also linking out to some of my competitors. We all used to be around the top 5 positions in Google but suddenly we are down in the 300 - 400 range. My website has turned into a ghost town overnight! I have never paid for link building in my life but I think that maybe I should have paid to build links to my competitors and I think that now you have just opened the doors for this type of behavior to become the norm. Why should we use positive SEO when it is obvious that Negetive SEO tactics will work better!

I think this is the worst change ever Google! You just made it easy for competition to de-rank white hat websites using the webspam tactics you described - which oddly happened to me right after posting this algo update! I never engaged in such activity, but after checking my backlink profile it all made sense.

The end results are poor because your algo should have had a set date in what TO or NOT value. My competitors de-ranking tactics worked because this update.

And getting rid of webspam? I see now blog links are dead, but what about PR (press release) sites? Or blogs that make it looks like a PR site? I see one site still on the first page for all sorts of "PR" webspam.

One last thing, you want to make America the land of the FREE again? Incorporate an algo that prohibits OVERSEAS MANUFACTURES to rank in the USA search reults. Just my two cents.

The solution to the search quality problem is not tweaking the algorithm but stepping outside the box and looking at the new internet society with a fresh paradigm. I have seen this before with other organizations and the symptoms are the same. So far this new change is killing my business and making my competition that dose a lot of black hat things jump to the top.

I have dropped from page one for 5 of my websites to page 5 to 10.
The phone has stopped ringing and we are now at a loss of income do to this.

We are a local business and this is killing us.
Other websites that are junk and do not even offer the services being searched for are now showing up beating us.

We book all our jobs from our websites that are local to our area.
If this keeps up this will bankrupt us in a few months.

One of the services that compete with use have over a hundred websites are now showing up for many sites in page 1,2,3,4 and 5.

They spin story's and post to sites and buy back links and more and they are getting reworded for this and it is killing us.

This change is not fair and not good.

We have had our websites on page one for many years and built our business on this for years and now this change is making us have no business at all.

We just invested over 15k in more equipment for our business and now we have no new jobs to pay for it.

I have spent YEARS making my website the best there is in what it sells.

It has been ranked #1 on Page 1 for at least the last 2 years for over a dozen keywords.

I did everything right, from posting over 1000 words of original content on my home page, to writing and posting original articles on the site, creating and posting videos, creating all the important pages like TOS, Privacy, About, Contact, etc. etc. etc.

Now in one fell swoop for no reason, my site is not in the #1 position for any keyword, yet many of the CRAPPY sites that did their sites mostly wrong are above me.

Google has no idea how they've destroyed my livelihood instantly with the push of a button....and based on lots of the other posts, many other peoples too.

What they've done with this update is a major screw-up.

I hope to God they recognize this and correct it, and fast.

Congratulations Matt - you just helped destroy a small Melbourne mobile phone repairs shop!

Well done, have a cookie.

Having not broken any of your rules, containing only valid (original / non spun) content, and having no hidden/stuffed keywords or content, this website had finally managed to carve out a decent amount of traffic from Google to help it compete with the larger monopolies in the area. Things were finally starting to look up, in an economy that certainly isn't.

Now, all their top 10 keywords are gone, their traffic has completely died, and they may have to look at laying off one of their employees due to the drop in business this will cause.

Thanks Matt for causing my best friend to probably lose his Job...

Maybe he can apply for yours, since clearly you're not doing it well enough.

This update is a disaster. I make my living and support my family through my pest control business which is mainly found on google results. I've always had good rankings and results and always update the site to make it so. Now I've gone from page ONE to completely disappearing from Google search under all my main keywords. Good job Google of killing off my lively hood and increasing the site placement of sites that are much weaker and not as good. This is a disaster in every way, now to figure out how I'll survive...

START THE GOOGLE REVOLT!? Half tongue in cheek/half serious... Looks like Google have finally lost the plot. These problems have been going on for a while now and yet to be fixed properly. I am reading of large companies who have paid tens of thousands for SEO and also others that have their own SEO "teams" who were page one or number one suddenly dropping off and coming back weeks later pages down the scale with junk up front! (reading too many forums I am). Think it may be time to disable our Google toolbars, save Bing or Yahoo as our home page and show Google we are not happy? Seems they need some extra encouragement to get their game sorted out...

Prime example...a friend searched for "online line count" - first result, "Cheap Viagra Online" at number one...go try it yourself. It's happening so much now I have moved to 50% Bing 50% Yahoo searching...

Just my opinion!

Now I type in Google 'order stamps' to find the USPS website - what do I get?

rubberstamps.net is rated 309 seller reviews

“Great service, great products, great prices!”
“Great Products easy order fast delivery”

“A perfect transaction.”

What a great user experience. BTW: I found what I was looking for on Bing. Good bye Google.

Can't wait for Bing and Yahoo to take there share of the search market space now that
Google sucks so bad. This is actually the best update ever since it is so lousy people
will move and google wont control anymore. Since 2012 began serps have increasing got
worse and this is just the final straw we need to have users move to other search providers.

THANK GOD finally Google wont control.

Google guidelines have never warned against using exact match domain names. This update clearly turns on those that have invested in and developed upon exact match domains and is incredibly unfair to those small business people that have been caught up in the wash. Exact match domains are not spam and utilizing an exact match domain is not blackhat or webspam.

What Google is doing lately is like shooting yourself in the head because you got the flu. We webmasters notice every little change instantly, but sooner or later the average user will notice it too. That is when Google has to rethink all this nonsense and it is going to be interesting from a Public Relations point of view.

Matt, you wrote webmasters should build quality websites and not worry about anything else. Funny, because you just created a bunch of things to worry about.

Logically, you are saying that the sites you think are over optimized are low quality. That is a big stretch, can a site provide value to the average user even though it is seen by a search engine as over optimized? Sure it can!

Sometimes I have the feeling you are trying to prove your steps were right. First with Panda, you said something like the user experience improved. Really? By what metric? Does the user spend more time surfing? Yes, maybe because it takes more time to find the relevant information. You can always rationalize something but I am sure you use Google every day. Haven't you noticed it is much more difficult to find stuff with Google lately?

I think (hope really) with this unnatural links notice/over optimiziation penalty you guys are trying to teach a lesson to the top websites. In my case it would work, I am much more picky of the links I get now.

I have lost my highest quality site with well thought articles, a custom built theme for the best user experience possible, everything impeccable onsite.

I have a low quality backup site with 6 articles now sitting on page 3 with close to zero linkbuilding. Here is what I am going to do. (First I create another backup site.) Then I am going to slowly bring my page 3 site to the first page, buy a negative SEO service to nuke everybody above me. When I am nuked too I use the third backup site to do the same and so on. Guess this is the only way to survive these days. I am sure quality will improve *sarcasm*. Thank you Matt, thank you Google!

This update is a complete DISGRACE.

I have a 3+ year old website with a low bounce rate, original articles, good usability and overall good content.

I only did normal on-page SEO and submitted my site to website directories about one year ago.

The site got penalized.

So I go to Google and type all the keywords I normally rank good for. Well, the results are all of CRAPPY websites that are absolutely horrible and look like they were made back in the 90s. Not only that, but the content is also irrelevant and definitely NOT what I would look for if I were a normal person typing those keywords.

My website provides far better content than all those sites, yet it got penalized.

I wouldn't mind that much if this update actually improved the results, but it made them FAR WORSE.

My whole business went downhill and honestly right now I have absolutely no idea of what to do.

This is a complete joke.

George said...

Horrible Panda update.

google killed 2 of my websites: a news portal which ranked very well and a travel website with 100% original content and pictures with a expensive design including google maps etc. Both of them white hat.

I did a search for the name of the travel website which is mydomain.com and it disappeared from google results , however I own another site with the same name but using mydomain.net and different content, it is a hotel booking engine stuffed with many keywords, this website appeared on the first page of the search results. Bravo!

I just run my websites as hobby and luckily I don't make my living online. However many small companies and online business have been ruined by this "great and wonderful" update.

google webmaster guidelines it's a mockery. and google too.

i.g if you search for voxen, please, take a look at the first result, a "website" with a black background and the following text in green color: voxen> no text, no photos, nothing! just a plain domain with a black background.

High quality website indeed; informative, great SEO, essential website highly recommended to visit ;)

I guess google want we use ADWORDS to monetize even more their company, i just got an email yesterday inviting me to try it for free.

Today my websites disappeared for google SERPs. Goodbye then :)

But don't worry, google will disappear someday as well, and there are more search engines available which are getting better and better: Bing, Yahoo! and duckduckgo.com

duckduckgo.com gives more accurate and relevant search results than google, basically you will find what are you looking for, not whatever google want to you click.

I am not engineer but I used to perform more than 1500 searches per day using google, and I know google very well.

google algorithm is screwed up since the end of last year and I guess they don't know how to fix it.

I understand the need to clean up keyword rankings by removing the rubbish. But to a certain degree. There's a lot of legitimate e-commerce sites that will be destroyed from this action. How will the "little man" build it's traffic moving forward without a mix of white and black hat tactics? The only reason some of the spamming exists is due to the fact that the "little guy" can't get himself ranked high against the large online stores or physical retailers that also sell online. To do it "the right way" could take YEARS and YEARS to be ranked on the first page for the most common keywords in a certain market. No one without the backing of millions of dollars from investors can accomplish that in the amount of time necessary before running out of the startup capital and needing to shut down. I see it as destroying the opportunity for small businesses to grow through online retail. I'm sure a lot of it has to do with Google having it's pockets lined with $$$$$ from the big retailers who complain that 0.00000001% of their billion dollar profits are being eaten up by the small guys trying to make a living through their own e-commerce sites in that market. Like there isn't enough to go around. It's the Capitol Hill of the Web. Lobbyists and Bribers. The next step is the fall of capitalism by destroying another avenue for the average American to make a living. So much for entrepreneurship.

Call me crazy, but maybe the internet is long overdue for a change in the "people algorithm".

We are the creators of content. We are the voices behind the blogs. I'm also willing to bet that most of us have quite a few family and friends who turn to us whenever their computer crashes, or they have technical questions...people who value our understanding of technology, simply because it exceeds their own.

So all I'm saying is, we start advising our friends and family that it's better to use Yahoo or Bing, or any other search engine for that matter. I know it's not a quick solution, and doesn't solve the immediate problem at hand. But if Google won't hear our voices, then maybe we turn our voices to those who will listen.

For those of us who have done nothing but follow the almighty Google's rules, only to suffer for it...maybe the time has come for us to show Google that we are not pawns on their Chess board...we ARE the Chess board...and without us, the King has no squares to rule!

That's the great thing about grass root movements...they take all of the tiny voices that don't get heard, and bring them together as a single thunderous voice that can not be ignored!

Now we'll see how quickly this post is removed for being "off-topic"...despite the fact that it is very much on point.

Everyone on top wants to find a way to earn money, even Google who, as a top search engine, earns money by displaying ads that are NOT necessarily (or EVER...) the best results.

Bad blogs that are currently being ranked on top are also gonna try to monetize their traffic, this is how we put EFFORT into something, through a monetary compensation.

Dear Google, please fix this or you will start displaying bad results because of your stubborn behavior and a new search engine may take over you, just like Facebook is taking over the world's traffic.

To tell the truth, I no longer even wanna search on Google, fearing they no longer know what should be displayed on top.

Hi Matt, I’ve a question about this sentence: “this algorithm represents another improvement in our efforts to reduce webspam and promote high quality content”.
What does it mean?

1)because the sites thate are violating Google’s existing quality guidelines will be throw out, so the sites that were in second page will move from second to first page (automatically, it’s logical, it’s mathematical..)
2) this algorithm will - explicitly - reward sites that will use a good SEO.

Thanks.

I've worked exceptionally hard the past two years to LEGITAMATELY raise my website's rankings, beginning somewhere in space and rising to about page 40. This past year, my rankings increased to page two, where I remianed solid for a while until finally arriving to #9 on page one. But, this lasted only for the past two weeks up until your changes took place. Now I'm extinct.

Do you call this professionalism? I, and so many others, have wasted a great deal of time and effort playing by your rules and to only have the rules changed midway through the game, which has caused a great hardship. Now what? Start over? Two more years of building trust with you?

My impression is that you are just another corporate giant who could care less about decent people and place your sole focus on profit. I think my mistake was linking more than once in one page to the home page using anchor text...?

Drop in results were not massive but my site lost a lot of it's power and it's a great site with original content and ppl love it.

I had to remove these links anyway in a hope of getting better results back. Fingers crossed as I work hard to keep it nice and fresh with a pretty white hat on.

My site is very nice and my visitors often compliment. Good unique content with images. Nothing spun nor keyword stuffing or anything. Followed the rules 100%. Now moved 6 pages down for most keywords. Here is why I personally believe Google still haven’t sorted it.

1) All my competitor who has not updated their site for more than 1 and sometimes 2 years are still on page 1

2) Competitor who has white text on white background are still on page 1 and no navigation menu.

3) Competitor with only 10 post, no update for 1 year and 600 backlinks from an irrelevant (which happens to be a SEO site) site is still on page 1

4) Competitor with lots of BAD backlinks and only 4 pages with less than 300 words on each page but still has 3 Adsense ads on are on page 1

5) Competitor using "dirty" redirect is still on page 1

6) Number on page one has a metadescription with only keywords

Hmmm So lets see. I get pushed down 6 pages with more than 100 quality pages/post which you do not only need to take my word for as my bounce rate is less than 6% and page visits is 5-6 and 45% is returning visitors.

I have been angry that these outdated competitor using all kind of dirty tricks has been above me. I was hoping Google would fix it but no. They pushed me down instead. I honestly mean it when I say this. The visitor/searcher is not getting a good experience with the current Google algo or even the old one. I want change but this actually made it worse.

Please remove all the "bad" sites without pushing real sites like mine. This is not good for us who is trying to make a living but working more than 10 hours a day writing real unique content.

Matt I have an idea. Google are really keen on doing studies into the impact of online media on offline sales, brand recall metrics etc. Why don't you do a study like this:

Go out into the street, armed with a big board, and a load of pieces of card, some with keywords on them, some with brands. Ask people - "if you searched for this keyword, what order would you expect to see these brands come up". After asking a really good sample size, you can take the data back, and see if your current algorithm closely matches people's expectations or not. don't make any big changes to the algorithm, or how you crawl content, or recency vectors, just keep tweaking until you get your results really close and then BANG you're done, you have an algorithm that will bring back results people want to see. This consultancy was free, and you're welcome.

Cheers,
Gaz.

I'm moving on to other traffic methods that don't rely on the ever-changing whims of a heartless corporate giant like Google.

And I'm removing my Analytics and Webmaster Tools just as soon as I can. Analytics sucks now anyway because it doesn't provide me with search results from people signed into Google.

what i don't understand is that it seems the update for now has accomplished the opposite of the initial goal
on google France, it's amazing to see the keyword stuffing blogs taking first spot along with old newspaper article

the "freshness" reward seems to be gone i guess

surely this will get fixed

I think it is very interesting soo many people are coming out of the wood work claiming they lost their first page results without doing anything wrong ...

It is also funny how a few complaints are re-posted with practically the exact same wording.

The google search thing is a process, it changes over time, they try to make it better, doesn't always work, they try again.

I for one welcome the fact that Google is at least looking into the webspam issue.

Please consider not webspam sites, but consider what is shown for most results now.

Google results in 2003 ware better than this results ;o)

I think update has gone to one extreme direction for this not considering other factors now or levering their value.

Here's a story:

My wife has a card making website that has detailed step by step guides how to make greeting cards.

The site has been online since 2006, no spam stuff whatsoever, it has 7000 people who have signed up for her newsletter (who obviously think the site is good)and before this update the site was getting 2000+ visitors a day.

Yesterday saw traffic drop to 800 visitors, nearly two thirds less.

The real kicker is that she chucked in her full time job a couple of months ago to work on the site full time!

The world of online marketing seems to be a lottery and the more Google mess around with peoples livelihoods the less people will want to make decent online sites, like my wife's which in turn will ultimately be Google's demise.

I wouldn't mind but it is a great little site with hundreds of original pages and nothing dodgy going on at all! There are countless comments on the posts from people saying how they love what she is doing.

What is the point in slogging your guts out on something that can be taken away in an instant and without any explanation!!

Anyway thanks Matt for this, at least you don't have to listen to my kids when I say we can't afford a holiday this year!!

Not a happy bunny!

Do you know that the people like me are paying $$$ monthly for high quality content? We hire experts to write reviews, at least they have 10+ reputation on the top IM forums! We are doing our best, paying $$$$ for unique design, and now what? I have ordered 10 high quality articles yesterday for one of my sites (paid for it 170$) and today I have discovered that my site has been disappeared and it is ranked on 16 page of Google! Whyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy????? I can show all kind of proof! Paypal invoices for articles, for designs , hours and hours of work, why ? :) I have been looking now on webmaster tool, I just realized that my site was penalized due to some illegal actions. I thought, maybe someone started to kill my site as a great competitor? But on webmaster tool there are more than 700 domains linked, how can I know which one is spam sites? I don't know what to do, I have contacted the major seo companies and they asked me $$$$ monthly fee only for consultation. And there is no guarantee! What's next?[/quote]

Of course you are innocent ... paying people to review your wares online $170 for 10 favorable reviews ...

Anyone else have their back button gray out on this blog?

The evidence was clear you've messed up by the example of "make money online" and showing a totally blank results for no.1 . Because so many people voiced this to you, you tried to cover your tracks by removing it. By showing this result it was evident your algorithm does not work. So tell me, what about the tens of thousands of other sites you've messed up on. you don't care do you. They must suffer for your errors because they don't have the power of the people and Matt Cutts in their pocket. You asked us for high quality user friendly engaging content, we gave it to you, what do you give us in return blank and spam sites on the first page. I'm out. Bing all the way

It just doesnt make sense. I have followed a particular site and even submitted all of their links to your "report abuser for paid links" and they still rule?? How is this? www.isteroids.com is a perfect example of how this new program failed. All they do is spam and pay for links and they are 100% rewarded.... It is so frustrating.

The funny thing about what I see is people chiming in with sarcastic comments against all these webmasters here..

but what's left in Google?, a pile of crap sites for the most part, do these sites belong to you? because all I hear now are webmasters are saying sites they haven't updated in years are floating to the top of the serps with only a handful of crappy articles and spam links.

Sites that people don't even bother to update or seo, surely you have seen this coming?

I'm under the belief that anyone who thinks Google and Matt Cutts with his stocks and shares hasn't benefited off this financially is being short sighted. Surely a company that can generate up to $40 billion turnover every year would have sandboxed and tested this?

Now I see your team scrambling to clean up the mess to save your reputation and to try to stop yourself from looking like complete idiots - such as the "make money online" farce.

Well there actually happens to be thousands more searches like this that churn out ridiculous search results, the funny thing is we see this the most, we see hundreds of these search results everday and yes things are getting worse for Google.

Take this example; "bread machine reviews", so on the first page you can a total of 5 spam blogs from weebly, tumblr, wordpress, wikispaces and tripod!

You treat these people like they are stupid, you think they don't understand that they need the best content and the best site to get a good placement, quite often it's these sites that will compete the hardest.

This is a competitive world, business' will compete you just can't stop that, their practices will change over time but they are still competing against each other and they will compete "aggressively" not to say they aren't high quality, they are because they care about what they do.

You think that there is going to be a ever growing constant flow of good content? from where now?

These "High quality websites" what you talk about are sites people gave up on years ago. So what you are reward the ones who try the least?

Maybe we will see this going the opposite way now. Websites people have worked on for years disappearing. When they see the crap they are being replaced by what do you think is going to happen?

Do you really think you have changed their best practices? Just maybe people will put less effort in from now on? maybe that game of reverse psychology will come back to haunt you.

Building shitty 1/5 page sites seems to be doing the trick atm, maybe it's time to forget about user experience? I can see alot of people here will more than likely focus on investing less effort, meaning they will be risking less from now on.

There is only a certain amount of people you can piss off before the tide starts turning against you and you touchable business starts to crash around you.

So These google changes have nothing to do with websites that are high for long periods seeming having money/time to be spent on them playing to google searches being removed/de ranked so panic sets in thus transferring the web spent onto ad-words campaigns?

Rock Iam said...

Google needs a reality check. They used to be the good guys. Not so much nowadays. They obviously made a mistake with this update. Their reaction? Covering up by manually removing obvious poor search results.

I am lucky because only one of my sites is affected by Panda/link penalty/over optimization. Accidentally it is my highest quality site. My lower quality sites are now thriving with a couple articles, old Wp themes and a handful of links.

It sure makes the playing field more even. I have got an idea, call this update the "Dumb it Down" update. The more generic your site is, the more chance it has to rank high. Best if it has no content and links at all (like the covered up make money online example). Maybe I had just defined the new Google Quality Guidelines?

Van Man said...

I Really Agree with admin comments - crappy sites that have been sitting for years with little work on them appearing high now and poor content as far as i can see.

Never mind, get onto adwords im sure google will start liking you even more now :)

I have a 7 year old, quality information based site. My traffic has been adversely affected to the point I wonder if I will continue with the site. This is NOT a good way to work with people. My site is not a keyword-stuffed spammy site. Why am I being penalized? This is the worst month I can remember since the first year I was up and running.

travelagent said...

So, I am search around for my keywords to see if I have anything left on Google, And what do I find on page one! A spam site with content that was stolen from my Website, that had 13 pages on page 1 two days ago. So what the hell! My hand written content put me from page 1 to page 3, And some A-hole that steals it from me gets a number 3 on page 1?

I own a travel agency, it is small but it feeds my 3 kids and my wife, at least it did up to 4/25/20012. I have never used anything black hat, My wife and I have written most everything on the site, We did hire a SEO company, one of the best and they do not use any black hat on the site. Now my business went dead yesterday, I went from over 300 visits a day to 9 yes 9! My phone only rung once yesterday, It was Google selling something not sure what, I just told them to f@#k off and hung up the phone. So what is google really doing here?

Maybe Google needs to feel what all of us and the millions that do realize what has happened yet posting here are feeling!

Think that everyone that reads this should post to Facebook, Twitter and any other social media site. These words
"Google Destroyed My Business"
and past in this blogs url. will it do anything, probably not much, but it may go viral and maybe some people will move to different search engines!

I was told my whole do what is right and you will prosper in life, until now it has always been true!

And by the way Matt, my kids are hungry, and my wife has cancer Could you please pay the hospital bills for me? The way things are now because of you! I don't think I am going to be able to afford to myself!

djcalib said...

Wow, how is it that my site has vanished off the face of the earth, yet copycat sites that are newer than mine and have literally spun the content off my site are still ranking, this is an absolute disgrace, traffic gone down 90%, massive hit! Now I literally don't know what to do, is there any point in trying now, all that hard work gone in a flick of a switch.

Who is the responsible for such catastrophe? He should be fired!

I cannot find anymore what I'm looking for on Google, too many bad results (empty pages, websites without relevant texts at all or with hidden text... can give you a lot of examples if you ask me).

Whatever these updates are doing, they are not right.

Google.com.au
2nd result for the search term 'make money online' is this site
makemoneyonline.josh4info.com/ which is no longer a website, it doesn't exist, try it out guys, not that I'm trying to rank for this term just think it's funny, the algorithm has certainly got it wrong!

A search for 'cheap all inclusive holidays' (which gets about 60,000 searches per month in the UK features a page in first position that doesn't mention cheap all inclusive holidays at all and only list 'all inclusive holidays' in the footer links.

The saving grace here is that beatthebrochure is a decent online travel agent, but this is definitely not the most relevant search result for such a phrase.

As a dedicated all inclusive holiday specialist with a dedicated website containing over 1000 pages of unique content, i really do not not what to do now??

Dear Google Engineers,

Please reconsider your actions. I am merely a Flight Attendant who wanted to help others and earn a few extra pennies to supplement my average salary. I set up a website to help those with a fear of flying. Every single word on the website is my own and I 'did' get emails every day thanking me for the wonderful work I have done.

Your latest update has destroyed my site. I am now getting just over 100 visits a day and no emails - and therefore no income.

I do not know much about SEO and never really bothered too much putting a lot of effort into it. I simply concentrated on creating useful content that would benefit those with a fear of flying.

My site has been in the top 10 for well over a year, but now it's found on page 3. The top 10 is made up of a completely unhelpful Wikipedia entry, some huge brands selling fear of flying courses for hundreds of pounds, and a article from a UK newspaper that simply endorses a book and offers no real help and advice.

You have destroyed my little business, and - more importantly - harmed fearful flyers chances of finding genuine and free advice.

I ask again, please reconsider your actions. Genuinely good people's businesses are being destroyed because your algorithm is flawed.

The perfect example of this is of course the 'make money' search that has been mentioned. Number 1 is currently a empty blog that simply says 'not for sale'.

No previous update has affected me and I believed that was because I had worked so hard at creating good content and had good engagement with my web visitors. Now it appears that makes no difference whatsoever.

I feel like crying. 3 years work has been wiped under the carpet because you believe my site is not worthy. I have never been so devastated in my life.
